Chandigarh, July 6

The UT police have filed a chargesheet against a youth, Paras Arora, facing charges of hitting ASI Ramesh Chand of the Chandigarh Police with his car at a naka in Sector 20, here.

The police also added Section 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to any person being a public servant in the discharge of his duty) of the IPC against the accused in the chargesheet.

The police have registered the FIR against the accused under Section 307 on a complaint of constable Parvesh, who, along with ASI Ramesh Chand and other officials, was deployed at a naka in Sector 20 here on April 10.

Constable Parvesh alleged that Ramesh Chand noticed a car coming towards the naka. When he signalled the car driver to stop the vehicle, he allegedly accelerated the car and allegedly hit Ramesh before fleeing from the spot.

He alleged that the impact of the hit was such that the ASI flung into the air and suffered injuries. The injured cop was rushed to the GMCH-32 in a PCR van.

After verifying the registration number, the police arrested Paras Arora, a BA student. The police produced the car driver in a court, which sent him to jail on April 11.

The ASI later died during the treatment at the PGI. However, while arguing for the bail, the counsel for the accused earlier told the court that the ASI’s death had nothing to do with the road accident. He argued that as per report of the PGI, the cause of the ASI’s death was attributed to respiratory failure with Covid and hypertension.
