Chennai
Daimler India Commercial Vehicle (DICV) has reportedly opened a new Virtual Reality Centre at its Chennai plant setting a benchmark for the Indian commercial vehicle industry.
The operators can perform accessibility and serviceability checks in this virtual reality centre by using a digital model used with the help of navigational joysticks and 3D goggles. The customer service operations and research and development have been revolutionised by this move by DICV.
This platform will reduce the demand for prototype vehicles, service bays, and custom-built tools so the method of vehicle servicing will change now. It will also help to reduce the time and cost required for commercial vehicle development and testing. Distant collaboration is also an option because of this virtual reality centre. According to the company, as there are travel restrictions and social distance guidelines that need to be followed, this is a great model to exchange ideas and opinions.
DICV has also introduced the ‘Bsafe’ feature for its BharatBenz bus fleet so that safe public transportation can be ensured. The buses will have temperature sensors and hands-free doors, sanitizers to control the spread of the virus.
According to Karl-Alexander Seidel, Chief executive officer and head of Daimler Bus India at DICV, with the ‘Bsafe’ feature, the company aims to revive the demand for passenger buses in India.
