GORAKHPUR: The North Eastern Railway (NER) earned revenue of around Rs 70 lakh in the last 4 months despite the prevailing Covid-19 situation and saved Rs. 21 crores approximately in the FY 2020-21, CPRO NER, Pankaj Kumar Singh said.
“With electrification, the consumption of imported diesel has been reduced, which saved a lot of foreign currency. It also resulted in reducing the operating costs, increased sectional capacity by eliminating detention on account of traction change, reducing operating and maintenance cost of the electric locomotives. The indirect benefit has been making it a more environment friendly mode of transportation,” CPRO NER Pankaj Kumar Singh said.
“Electric trains are running with Head on Generation (HOG) which curtailed the use of power cars and saved diesel cost upto Rs. 21 crores approximately in the FY 2020-21,” he added.
“17 trains of NER have been running with one LSLRD additional coach in place of one power car and it is also being planned to run the other HOG compliant trains with the LSLRD coach in place of one power car. With this initiative, NER earned Rs 70 lakh approximately in the last 4 months even after the ongoing pandemic and the most important thing is that 31 more passengers could travel with the same arrangements,” CPRO said.
