Ghaziabad: Two persons have been arrested from Kavi Nagar area for allegedly posing as political leaders and police officers. According to police, the duo used to pressurise police officers and other government employees for the transfer and posting purposes. “The accused used to force the police officers to release criminals as well,” an officer said.
The accused have been identified as Harsh (20) and Vikrant (19), both are from Baghpat. Both the youths, who are 12th pass out, had been conning cops for the last one year.
Abhay Mishra, circle officer, Kavi Nagar, said for the last few months, the accused used to call senior police officers and pose as politicians, listening to whom the officers would believe them and followed their directions. “However, when the accused went on a spree of calls and contacted other police officers, they came under our radar. The accused were calling senior officers with different numbers posing as different politician. We started to trace their calls and managed to trace the culprits. On Monday, we arrested both of them,” he said.
Mishra said that the accused would purchase SIM cards on a fake ID to call the government employees and police officers. The accused used one SIM card for one employee and once the work was over, they would break it.
Police said it was hard to differentiate between the voice of the miscreants and the people they were impersonating. “The duo told us that before calling, they used to watch videos of some known politicians, including local politicians. They used to talk in the same way,” he added.
The two were booked under sections of 417 (punishment for cheating), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of IPC. The accused were sent to judicial custody on Tuesday after being produced before the district court.
