Ranchi, Jul 7 (UNI) BJP's Koderma MP Annapurna Devi was on Wednesday inducted as a Union Minister of State in the Modi Cabinet.
Apart from being the MP from Koderma, she is also the national vice president of the party. Once considered a close aide of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav she had joined the BJP after ditching the RJD just before the Lok Sabha Polls of 2019.
Her rise in the BJP during last two years has been phenomenal as after winning from Koderma she was made the party's vice president in the state unit. Later she was made the national vice president and also the co-incharge for party affairs in Haryana.
51-year-old Annapurna Devi is a postgraduate in History from Ranchi University. She hails from the Yadav community.
She was married to Ramesh Yadav who was a minister in the days of unified Bihar. Post his demise in 1998 she contested the bypolls and became an MLA for the first time in 1999 and was inducted as a minister in Bihar. After the state of Jharkhand was created in 2000 she remained an MLA and went on win from Koderma seat in 2005 and 2009 assembly polls.
In the year 2013 she was made the water resources government in Hemant Soren government. However, in 2014 assembly polls she was defeated by BJP's Neera Yadav. Five years later in 2019 she joined the BJP after resigning as state unit president of Jharkhand RJD and was fielded from Koderma seat in the Lok Sabha polls where she defeated Babulal Marandi of the JVM-P by a margin of nearly 4.50 lakh votes.
