South Africa has recorded 21 427 new SARS-CoV2 infections, 411 new Covid-19-related deaths and 827 hospital admissions in the last 24-hour cycle.
As of 7 July, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases stood at 2 112 336.
This increase represented a 30.3% positivity rate, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said in a statement on Wednesday.
The national Department of Health reported 411 new Covid-19-related deaths, bringing the fatalities to 63 039 to date.
Hospital admissions
According to the NICD, as of 7 July, 15 450 people were currently hospitalised for Covid-19, of that, 9 578 were in private hospitals, while 5 872 were in public hospitals.
Provincial breakdown
Gauteng accounted for 49% of new infections reported on 7 July, followed by the Western Cape with 13%, and Limpopo with 9%.
