Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh (79) on Tuesday put ball in Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s court after over a 90-minute meeting at her residence, pretending the issue of cricketer-turned-critic Navjot Singh Sidhu (57), who quit his government as a minister 2 years ago, did not come up in discussions that were focused on “government and political issues.”
“Whatever Sonia Gandhi decides about the party in Punjab will be acceptable to us and we will implement her will. I do not know anything about Navjot Sidhu,” he told reporters waiting outside 10 Janpath to know if Sonia has been able to give her decision for ending factionalism in the party in the state that is slated for polls early next year.
She also called in Mallikarjun Kharge, chairman of a 3-member AICC panel on Punjab, where the meeting was underway to take inputs from him for conveying to the chief minister. She told the CM that the panel inputs will be taken into consideration in finalising the PCC and cabinet reshuffle.
Sonia was expected to discuss the progress made about the 18-point agenda handed over to Captain a few days ago as well as the caste matrix to recast the Pradesh Congress Committee.
