Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has reached Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s residence in Delhi for a meeting on the resolution of Punjab factionalism, days after former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s long meeting with party leaders Priyanka Vadra Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
The top leadership is expected to share with the Chief Minister the formula worked out to ensure he and Sidhu are on the same page. The high command is also likely to discuss the progress made regarding the 18-point agenda handed over to Captain a few days ago as well as the caste matrix to recast the Pradesh Congress.
It could not be ascertained whether Rahul Gandhi, who has been meeting party leaders from Punjab, would be present at the meeting. It may be mentioned that Punjab affairs in-charge and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat had said that Sidhu would be given a crucial role to ensure the party retained power in the state. Sources did not rule out discussions on the CM face for the crucial 2022 Assembly elections.
