There are many roles Geeta Basra plays in her real life, but being a mother takes precedence. Second-time pregnant and due anytime soon, she has kept herself active and positive. Being pregnant during the pandemic hasn’t been easy, but Geeta says a sound mind can take over any challenge. She shares her fitness secrets with us…

Fitness is...

Fitness in today’s time is very important. Unlike our parents and grandparents who were so active, we have a sedentary lifestyle and Covid has been a reality check. For me being fit is equal to being healthy. Now, I don’t say one has to work-out daily to prove that he or she is fit; something as simple as a daily walk also suggests you are into fitness.

To stay in shape

Earlier, I used to go to gym but now I only do yoga. More than just strengthening, yoga helps me detox and stay peaceful. I do a lot of stretching and whenever I can, I also go for long walks.

Favourite fitness accessory

A yoga mat.

Day starts with

I drink lots of water, have some chia seeds and blueberries on an empty stomach. Then there is the running after my daughter to get her ready for school and once that is sorted, I practice yoga.

Must-haves in diet

No matter how much we may try but our meals are not always wholesome or pack all the needed vitamins and nutrients, so I make sure to include certain supplements, including vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc and magnesium. Other than that, there has be a lot of proteins, less of carbs, some good fat and, of course, lots of water.

Meal-wise

My breakfast is gluten-free toast avocados and eggs. Lunch consists of jowari roti, sabzi, dal and curd. Dinner is red rice with dal or grilled veggies with paneer.

Can’t resist

I can’t resist a pizza.

Lockdown learning

I think lockdown has made us push ourselves. Earlier there were days when I just didn’t want to do anything. But since the lockdown, because we hardly have anywhere to go and are not so active, whenever I feel lazy, I remind myself to not give in.

Can’t wait to

Go back to the gym and do more outdoor activities; go to the beach, run in the mountains, soak in the sunlight. There is so much I miss, but the pandemic has taught us to make the most of what is there.

Family workouts

Bhajji is mostly into gyming and weight training. His workout is about strengthening and mine is more about flexibility and stretching. I am focusing more on blood circulation and keeping it light since I am eight months pregnant. But whenever we can, we sit together and do some breathing exercises.

Cheat meal means

Pizza and some ice-cream.

On Insta I stalk

My yoga instructor.

Find inspiration in

I think Jacqueline Fernandes; she is very fit.

On the bucket list

A really toned stomach.

Your advice…

If you eat well, 70 per cent of the work is done. The rest 30 per cent will be taken care of by your fitness routine.
