Mumbai: Former Congress leader Kripashankar Singh to join BJP tomorrow

Former minister of state for home and Congress legislator from Santacruz has finally decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Singh, who was well connected with the Congress high command, has kept himself away from the party’s association for quite some time. He will formally join BJP on July 7 in the presence of the leader of opposition in the state assembly Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil.

Singh’s move comes in the run up to the elections to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) slated for 2022 for which BJP has already launched Mission 2022 with a resolve to defeat Shiv Sena. Singh’s following in the North Indians will come quite handy for BJP to increase its presence in various BMC wards.

Singh had increased his proximity with BJP leaders including Fadnavis. After being discharged from the multi-crore disproportionate assets case in 2018, the speculation was rife that Singh will join BJP but he did not.

Despite his base in the north Indians in Mumbai and their following, Singh did not campaign for the Congress party in 2019 assembly elections. He kept himself busy and in circulation by participating in events organised by organizations linked with the North Indian community.

Similarly, Yatin Kadam, son of late Congress legislator from Niphad Raosaheb Kadam, will also join BJP on Wednesday.
