CHENNAI: A 21-year-old rowdy, who was involved in two murders and a few attempt-to-murder cases, was arrested under the Pocso Act at Kasimedu on Monday for sexually abusing and impregnating a minor girl from Madurai. The girl, now 17, was five months pregnant.
Police said the accused, Lokesh, of Kasimedu, had befriended the minor girl three years ago when he halted briefly in Madurai during a pilgrimage to Sabarimala. “He had taken down her mobile number and continued chatting with her over phone.
He brought her from Madurai to his home five months ago and lived with her in his house,” a police officer said. Based on a complaint from his neighbours, child welfare committee officials and police personnel confirmed that Lokesh was in a live-in relationship with the minor and his mother Geetha was an accomplice.
The CWC officials rescued the girl and admitted her to an orphanage home. Lokesh was arrested under the Pocso Act. His mother was also arrested.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
