The Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Pawan Yadav today said Sumchinvum village in Singngat sub-division is the first village to be fully vaccinated with Covid-19 vaccine in Churachandpur.
With 34 households and a population of 354, the village scripted history on June 27 to become the first village in Churachandpur to have all the eligible people get the Covid jab.
The village has responded well to the vaccination call early, with all eligible residents above 45 years getting their jab before it was liberalized for 18+ .
At least 34 of the villagers have now taken their second dose as well, according to Jameson Sehlal Hangshing, SDO Singngat.
Today Churachandpur managed to administer the first dose of the Covid vaccine to over 1600 people against the target of 980 at twelve session sites.
According to data provided by the District Immunization Office Churachandpur, the district has so far vaccinated about 42 percent of the district's eligible–(18 +) population which stands at about 1.64 lakh, with at least one dose of the vaccine.
Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav told reporters that efforts are underway to rope in the services of Church leaders and CSOs to hasten the vaccination drive.
Churachandpur has witnessed numerous rumors and negative publicity regarding the vaccine and there's a need to counteract that, he said.
Calling on the people to receive the Covid-19 jabs at the earliest, Yadav said it is the only effective way to fight and win against the pandemic.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that early detection of the infection is crucial to save precious lives as many of the death cases here are due to late detection.
In fact a sizable number of the latest victims were taken to the hospital in critical conditions and many of them expired the same day.
The district administration also today started seeking the vaccination status of staff from private and Government establishments based in the district in order to prepare modalities for the vaccination plan.
The latest deadline for such establishments to respond to the DC's letter is July 9, 2021 .
Mass and random testing in localities which saw more than 5 percent positivity during the previous mass testing have commenced again with three localities–Hmar Veng, Hmuia Veng and Bijang Area earmarked for today.
CMO Churachandpur Dr VC Pau too stressed on the need to accelerate vaccination of all eligible population as he felt it is the only way to avoid a third wave.
The unvaccinated people will be the most affected in the event of a third wave, and children still not included in the vaccination drive will be the population most exposed.
Therefore, if we want our children to be safe, vaccination is the only way, he said.
