MANGALURU: A team of doctors at
Wenlock District Hospital in
Mangaluru claimed to have successfully treating a 16-year-old girl, who had tested positive for Covid-19 under Category C and was diagnosed with multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).
The girl, the first one to be treated for MIS-C at Wenlock Hospital, was cured completely and was discharged on Tuesday after a 24-day treatment, Dr Sharath Babu, pulmonologist at
Wenlock Hospital told TOI.
"The critical care team of the hospital treated the girl in ICU for 13 days, of which she was on ventilator support for eight days. She was diagnosed under Category C of Covid-19. Only complication in Category C is pneumonia and respiratory failure. However, this girl had several complications with multiple organ involvement. She had pneumonia and other system inflammation also. Hence, we treated her as a case of MIS-C," Dr Sharath Babu said.
"Usually, when children are tested positive for Covid-19, they show symptoms of MIS-C also after four weeks. Hence, we treated her on the lines of MIS-C also, though she had other complications. She had sepsis with shock, thrombocytopenia, anemia, hypoxic seizure and was extubated after eight days of mechanical ventilation," he added.
