Dhar (Madhya Praedesh): Former chief minister Digvijaya Singh’s visit here on Monday became talk of the town as factionalism in local Congress unit was clearly visible.
Digvijaya Singh visited former MLA late Mohan Singh Bundela’s residence to express condolence after death of his wife. He then visited senior leader Mujib Qureshi’s house to condole death of his son due to corona.
However, he did not visit residence of former city Congress President Dr Manohar Singh Thakur, a two-time corporator and one of prominent Congress leaders in Dhar district. Many locals claimed that Dr Thakur’s son Ajay Singh has close proximity with former cabinet minister Umang Singhar.
Woman Congress president Vijeta Trivedi lost her father-in-law due to corona but Digvijaya Singh did not visit her place either. Local leaders claimed that Trivedi is close to former chief minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Kamal Nath and that could be one reason why Digvijaya chose to stay away. Many admit factionalism in party is deep rooted and has not ebbed even after downfall of Congress government in the state in 2020.
However, Dhar district Congress president Balmukund Singh Gautam denied factionalsim in the party. “Raja Saheb (Digvijaya Singh) was short of time, so he visited limited number of party leaders,” Gautam said.
During his visit to Dhar, Singh stayed away from media persons. Local Congress leaders including former minister Honey Singh Baghel, former District Cooperative Bank chairman Kuldeep Singh Bundela, district president Balmukund Singh Gautam and all the MLAs and former Congress MPs accompanied him.
