The expansion of the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi can happen on Wednesday. Jyotiraditya Scindia has reached Delhi amidst vigorous discussion of the reshuffle. Many potential faces in this cabinet are expected to be part of the Modi government's council of ministers. BJP leader Jyotiraditya is being considered the most important in this. Jyotiraditya Scindia today offered prayers at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, before leaving for the national capital. Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has already come to Delhi from Guwahati. BJP leader from Maharashtra Narayan Rane is also expected to join the cabinet.
There are a total of 53 ministers in the current council of ministers. According to the rules, the maximum number of ministers can be 81. There is a lot of discussion of many names, especially the leaders of those five states where assembly elections are to be held next year.
Many big leaders including PM Modi have met
The report said that on Sunday, PM Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh to finalize the cabinet expansion exercise. This evening PM Modi was supposed to hold talks with his top ministers and BJP President JP Nadda, but that meeting has now reportedly been called off.
If the Union Cabinet is expanded in the Modi government, then after coming to power for the second consecutive time in May 2019, it will be the first time that PM Modi will induct new faces in his council of ministers.
Key candidates for Union Cabinet expansion
The names to be part of the Union Cabinet expansion include Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Sushil Modi. Along with this, there is a strong discussion about the inclusion of several NDA allies in the Union Cabinet ahead of the major state elections next year, including many important leaders from Uttar Pradesh.
Varun Gandhi may also get a place in Modi's cabinet
Varun Gandhi, known for his aggressive attitude, can also be given a place in the Union Cabinet. Gandhi is an MP from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh where assembly elections are due next year. In such a situation, Varun can be included in the Modi cabinet from the quota of UP.
