Maharashtra govt introduces 3 bills to counter Centre's farm laws
The Shiv Sena-led MVA government in Maharashtra on Tuesday introduced three amendment bills in the assembly related to agriculture, co-operation, food and civil supplies, in a move to counter the new farm laws enacted by the Centre that are facing stiff opposition from a section of cultivators.
The bills have provisions for higher than MSP rate for produce in farming agreement with traders, timely payment of dues, three-year jail term and Rs 5 lakh fine or both for harassment of farmers.

Activist Sudha Bharadwaj, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case, told the Bombay High Court through her lawyer on Tuesday that the judge who remanded her to custody following her arrest in 2018 had "pretended" to be a designated special judge and orders issued by him were responsible for a longer stay in jail for herself and other co-accused.
Senior counsel Yug Chaudhry, who appeared for Bharadwaj, told the high court that KD Vadane, an additional sessions judge in Pune, had remanded her and eight other activists to the Pune Police's custody in 2018.
Mumbai court denies bail to actor Ajaz Khan in drug case
The bail plea of actor Ajaz Khan, who was arrested in connection with a drugs case, has been rejected by Mumbai's Esplanade court.
He had previously applied for bail in court, but his application was rejected.
