Wimbledon Quarterfinals 2021: Karolina Pliskova thrashes Golubic to enter semifinals – 8th seeded Karolina Pliskova has defeated Swiss Viktorija Golubic in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2021.
No.8 seed Karolina Pliskova is through to the Wimbledon semi-finals – her best result here in nine appearances – with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic. The match started on serve for the first set, but then in the sixth game Pliskova broke with a cross court smash to go 4-2 up and then charged on to wrap up the set in just 37 minutes.
The 6ft 1in Czech took control in the second set, taking less than a minute to hold the first game for love. And from then on there was no stopping her.
Golubic countered with some deft net play and majestic shots from her single-handed backhand but there was little she could throw at Pliskova that the No.8 seed couldn’t deal with, making some near-impossible retrievals and angles.
Pliskova dominated on nearly all the metrics; her ace tally is currently the third best on Tour (behind Ashleigh Barty and Aryna Sabalenka who are both in action today) and that form continued with eight this match.
Pliskova will now face either Ons Jabeur or Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final.
Ajla Tomljanovic the only unseeded player left in the draw plays Ashleigh Barty for a place in the other semi-final where the winner will face either Karolina Muchova or Angelique Kerber.
Earlier, she registered straight-set victories over Samsonova, Vekic, Martinkova, and Zidansek. She is yet to lose a set in Wimbledon 2021. Golubic, on the other hand, is coming on back of wins over 23rd seed Madison Keys, Brengle, Collins, and Kudermetova.
Pliskova is chasing her maiden grand slam title at Wimbledon 2021.
