Impetus to HP farmers: Wheat procurement centers opened for 1st time, says Min Kanwar

Hamirpur (HP), Jul 5 (UNI) In a first since independence , wheat procurement centres were opened in the state and wheat procured at the minimum support price of Rs 1975.

This proves that the BJP government was committed to safeguard the interest of the farming community and was pro-farmers, stated HP Rural development-cum-Panchayati raj development Minister, Virendra Kanwar Monday.

During a review meeting with the departmental officers at the premises of Thakur Jagdev Chand Smriti Shodh Sansthan at Neri near Hamirpur on Monday, Kanwar informed that so far about 18000 destitute animals have been transported to various Gausadans across the state.



Kanwar said the State Government was trying to make Himachal free from stray animals from day one and the steps taken in this direction have started showing appreciable results. Financial provision has also been made for better care of each animal.



He said besides (Gau Sadans) cow sanctuaries were also being constructed in different districts of the state. The creation of these sanctuaries will ensure a permanent solution to the problem of destitute animals in Himachal.



Virendra Kanwar informed that the construction of cow sanctuary at Khairi in Hamirpur district was in the final stage. In this, about 1,800 animals can be kept in an open and better environment.



He also directed the officers of the Animal Husbandry Department to explore the possibilities of Gau Sadan in Gasota, Lamblu, and Jahu areas of the district.



While reviewing the plans of the Agriculture Department, Kanwar said instead of getting the seeds of various crops from outside states, the Agriculture Department was considering preparing the seeds in Himachal itself and the cooperation of the Marketing Board will also be taken in this.



Referring to Thakur Jagdev Chand Smriti Shodh Sansthan, Virendra Kanwar said this institute was doing a commendable job in the direction of research on Indian traditions, values , and ancient history. He said a beautiful park would be developed on the campus of this institute under Panchavati scheme, which would provide an excellent environment for research and study to the research scholars.
