Schwing Stetter India begins its Operator Skills Training program in Cheyyar

Schwing Stetter India, one of the larger manufacturers of concreting, construction & mining equipment’s across the country has launched its first ‘Operator Skill Training’ program at its manufacturing facility in Cheyyar.

The one-month extensive course is accredited by IESC, affiliated to NSDC, where 53 students have been selected for the first training program, comprising of two batches. These students will be trained in operating three key products:

  • Boom Pumps
  • Self-Loading Concrete Mixers
  • Excavators

In February, the company had inaugurated its largest facility in the state, the Global Manufacturing Hub. The state-of-the-art integrated facility of 52 acres comprising 50,000 square meters of built-up area will now manufacture concrete boom pumps, stationary pumps, self-loading mixers, shotcrete pumps, excavators, wheel loaders and motor graders. The facility also houses a Centre of Excellence for training individuals in concreting products. The CoE is partnered with the IESC Skill Council and includes a state-of-the-art, modernised training centre that will provide skilling to the youth across nearby districts.

At present, Schwing Stetter is one of the largest factories located at Cheyyar and aims to skill and train 10,000 men and women across nearby districts to make them employable. With the pandemic hitting industries hard, it is of utmost importance for individuals to be equipped with present skillsets in order to stay relevant in the industry. This exclusive training program will empower individuals with the right way to approach heavy machinery and become highly skilled operators. After training and certification through this program, the candidates can look for a rewarding career in the verticals such as infrastructure, construction and ready-mix concrete producing companies. Schwing Stetter will be sharing the resumes of passed out candidates to these companies for prospective job opportunities.

The first batch of students includes 53 male, and the company plans to include women also in their upcoming programs and are working vastly towards creating a women-first environment in the GMH.

In the future, Schwing Stetter India has plans to also design short-term RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) approved by NSDC, courses which will help operators and mechanics who has prior work experience in this industry but without a formal certification. This RPL programs will train, assess and certify such candidates.

Speaking about the necessity for such training programs, V G Sakthikumar, MD, Schwing Stetter India said, “Over the past 20 years, we have successfully trained close to 14,000 plus individuals in handling concreting machinery. At our new facility, our focus has been on providing modernised training and empowering local residents at Cheyyar and nearby districts. We had the intention to start this training initiative immediately after the inauguration in the month of February 2021, but the pandemic proved to be spoiler. Our goal to train 10,000 individuals is ambitious, which is definitely possible over the coming years. Considering how severely the pandemic has hit us, a career which provides opportunity for sustained income is a boon for the students. Moreover, Schwing considers this as a responsibility to train men and women who are highly skilled to operate heavy and sophisticated equipment across concreting and construction industries.”
