Kerala Tourism has come up with an interesting new initiative to revamp its tourism sector. Tourists can now prefer to order food and dine inside their vehicles at all restaurants operated by Kerala Tourism Department Corporation (KTDC). All the allied Aahaar restaurants will offer Kerala’s local cuisine to tourists, right inside their vehicles. Guests will be offered breakfast, lunch, dinner along with light meals at the said restaurants.
This move will also help travelers practice social distancing adhering to hygienic measures. The plan was announced by Kerala Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas, who said, “Instead of dining inside a restaurant and mingling with the crowd, the in-car dining initiative will ensure safety to the tourists coming to Kerala.”
For Kerala, tourism remains a major source of revenue and is a favorite with domestic and international tourists. Tourism was badly hit by the COVID-19 outbreak that started last year. Tourism accounted for 11% of Kerala’s State Domestic Product (SDP), but now it has gone down considerably.
Dining at restaurants went downgrade ever since COVID-19 hit India, with a number of restaurants around India shutting down. This new move is aimed toward reviving the affected industry. Kerala government previously announced its plans to vaccinate everyone in the tourism industry, and the process has already started. Popular holiday destinations will be identified across the state, and would be made completely vaccinated zones.
