Meghalaya CM, Congress MP, Catholic Association condole death of Fr Stan

Shillong, July 5 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Shillong Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala and Catholic Association Shillong on Monday expressed their condolences over the demise of Father Stan Swamy.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the Chief Minister tweeted : "Rest in Peace Fr Stan."

Veteran Congress parliamentarian Vincent H Pala , tweeted: "My family and I express our deepest condolences to the family members, friends, lawyers and all those who stood by Father Stan Swamy a Jesuit priest who dedicated his life for the tribals and voiceless. May his Soul Rest In Peace."

Condoling the demise of the 84-year-old Jesuit priest, who had fought for the rights of Jharkhand's tribal communities, the Catholic Association of Shillong said : "He was a human right activist who fought for the rights of the poor, oppressed, the underpriveleged. He dared questioned the non-implementation of the Vth Schedule of the Constitution that required the formation of a "Tribes Advisory Council", the Forest Rights Act, 2006, Land Acquisition Act, 2013 of the Jharkhand government and dared opposed many legislation which impoverished the tribal communities."
