Q I’ve always blushed easily, but now the redness lasts and my skin can sting. Is this rosacea and what can I do about it?

A  That does sound like rosacea, a chronic inflammatory skin condition that will worsen if it’s not carefully managed.

I would advise you to invest in a dermatologist’s appointment to determine the right treatment for you, as rosacea presents in different ways.

In the meantime, you can do a lot to get on top of the symptoms. Eat an anti-inflammatory diet: leafy greens, fermented foods, fatty fish, yoghurt, wholegrains.

Avoid ‘heat-inducing’ triggers such as spicy foods, alcohol, hot baths, sunlight and intense exercise, and any irritating skincare.

Look for products without alcohol, fragrance, essential oils, sulphates and strong exfoliating acids. Don’t use scrubs, rough cloths or cleansing brushes.

You need a mild water-soluble cleanser such as Curel Foaming Facial Wash, £9.37 (boots.com). Also, a serum and moisturiser with anti-inflammatory agents (niacinamide, allantoin, beta-glucan) and ingredients that rebuild skin’s protective lipid barrier (ceramides, essential fatty acid-rich oils, probiotics).

A good choice is Indeed In-Ceramide Daily Moisture Cream, £24.99 (feelunique.com).

And if nothing else, you need a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen: Rosalique 3-in-1 Anti Redness Miracle Formula SPF 50, £29.99 (rosalique.co.uk) is perfect and gives skin a delicate, glowing tint to boot.
