A mother of six was one of two people killed in a collision between a tractor and a car in Cumbria.

Michelle Pattinson, 42, was a passenger in a Ford S-Max being driven by Shaun Milburn, 34, at the A66/A595 Fitz roundabout, near Cockermouth, where the crash happened early on Saturday.

Father-of-eight Mr Milburn and Ms Pattinson, both of Maryport, died at the scene.

Her family described her as a "loving mother of six beautiful children".

The three other people in the car were taken to hospital suffering from serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The tractor driver, a local 20-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries.

A statement from Ms Pattinson's family said: "Rest in peace Michelle. Sadly gone, but forever loved and missed.

"Fly high, you're always with us."

Mr Milburn's wife, Shareen, said he was "a loving and overprotective father to eight children, aged between 17 and one year old".

Her tribute continued: "Shaun was my best friend, my number one man. He was such a caring and loyal husband, who came from a big family of seven brothers and one sister.

"Family was everything to him, he loved spending time with family and could not have wished for a better Mam and Dad, who he loved deeply.

"Shaun was the life and soul of the party, he enjoyed life to the full.

"He leaves a big hole in all our hearts and he will never be forgotten."

Cumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 05:50 BST.
