Of late, tourism and aviation chiefs in the UK are insisting on introducing ease Covid travel restrictions. They had called on the new health secretary, Mr. Sajid Javid. This move would boost the economy as well as save jobs.

A joint letter was written in this regard. They issued an appeal to the minister to expand the green list of foreign countries to which UK tourists can travel without self-isolation on return.

On the green list, there are at present 16 countries, mainly Caribbean and Mediterranean islands. However, those are subject to change at short notice.

The letter, written by Airlines UK head of trade Tim Alderslade, had mentioned UK as the third most internationally connected country in the world. In the UK, every year, travel industry generated around £53bn in domestic spending.
“The pandemic has been a catastrophe for our industry and the wider economy,” it said.
