IPL New Teams: The top earners of Indian Premier League (IPL) — Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni amongst others — are set to get even richer as the BCCI the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to increase the salary cap from Rs 85 crore currently to Rs 100 crore in the next three years. As IPL is set to introduce two new teams from IPL 2022, BCCI is aiming to roll out the changes with retained players earning more.
As per the planned changes, the current Rs 15 crore highest salary cap for a retained player will change. That means the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who are likely to be retained are expected to pocket fatter salary cheques with an increase of Rs 5 crore salary cap for IPL 2022. Gradually, it will increase to Rs 95 crore and by IPL 2024, the salary purse will hit the magical figures of Rs 100 crore.
IPL New Teams: As per current rules set by BCCI, franchisees must deduct Rs 15 crore, Rs 11 crore and Rs 7 crore from the salary purse for three players heading into a mega auction. In the case of four players, the structure changes to Rs 12.5 cr, Rs 8.5 cr when two players are retained and Rs 12.5 cr for one retained player. But with the increase in salary purse, it is set to increase as well ahead of the mega auction for 10 IPL teams in 2022 as per a TOI report.
“Some players may like the idea of not wanting to be retained and will want to head into the auction pool. That’s because there’s an increase in the salary purse and two new teams are being added. So, there’ll be a rush to grab talent. Expect some leading Indian cricketers to forward their names for the auction,” sources told TOI.
IPL New Teams: Currently, India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has the highest salary amongst all at Rs 17 crore. He is followed by Rajasthan Royals’ South African all-rounder Chris Morris at Rs 16.5 and Pat Cummins of Kolkata Knight Riders at Rs 15.5 crore. MS Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians, Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals) and Kyle Jamieson (RCB) earn Rs 15 crore each. However, if all are retained, they will see a significant increase in their salaries.
