Vijayawada, Jul 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy urged Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to take steps to stop the drawal of Krishna river water by Telangana state for hydel power generation and to notify the jurisdiction bringing water for irrigation, power and drinking on common reservoirs under the control of KRMB with CISF security.
The Chief Minister here on Monday wrote letter to the Union Minister explaining the prevailing water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.
Mr Reddy in his letter, a copy of which was released to the media, complained that the Telangana state blatantly violating the provisions of APR Act 2014 and acting in a whimsical manner with utter disregard to operation protocols and directions of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) causing a lot of distress to the state to AP, depriving AP state of its rightful share of water.
The Telangana state continues to generate hydel power through the Krishna waters, he told the Union minister.
The Chief Minister said “Further the Telangana state continues to unilaterally operate hydel power generation from Nagarjuna Sagar project without placing indent before the KRMB and in violation of the protocol of water drawals.
From the Pulichintala project also, the Telangana state continues to draw water for hydel power generation”, he said.
“We request your good self, to prevail upon the state of Telangana to stop at once the indiscriminate drawal of water solely for power generation”, he urged the Union Minister.
The Chief Minister appealed to Mr Shekhawat stating “It is also requested that the jurisdiction of KRMB may be notified immediately and all off take which include water for irrigation, power and drinking on common reservoirs may be kept under the control of KRMB with CISF security for effective operation and maintenance in the interest of both the states”.
