
IN A single day, Maharashtra was able to administer over eight lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses till late on Saturday. The total number of doses administered was a whopping 3.39 crore.
Dr Pradeep Vyas, additional chief secretary, Maharashtra, told The Indian Express that till late on Saturday, the state had administered 8,01,847 vaccine doses. “We have surpassed our previous best performance in Covid vaccination,” Dr Vyas said.
Dr Vyas said the previous best daily record of vaccinations was on June 26, when the state was able to administer 7,38,704 doses in one day. He added that for the past three months, the state had consistently been able to maintain its position on top.
After Maharashtra, in second position is Uttar Pradesh where 3.26 crore vaccine doses have been administered, followed by Gujarat that has registered 2.65 crore doses administered till July 3.
State health department officials said they had received a stock of 12.5 lakh vaccine doses on July 2. Over 48 lakh doses were administered in Pune district.
The state health department data shows that to date, a total of 48.05 lakh doses have been administered in Pune district. In the age group 45 years and above, a total of 19.55 lakh have got the first dose while 7.13 lakh have got both jabs. In the 18-44 age group, a total of 14.69 lakh beneficiaries have got the first dose while 37,199 have got both.
Pune district has administered the first jab to a total of 1.5 lakh healthcare workers and both doses to 1.07 lakh in this priority group. A total of 2.4 lakh front line workers have got the first vaccine dose while 1.20 lakh have got both jabs. Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, assistant director (health), Pune circle, said on July 2, they received another batch of 1.25 lakh Covishield and 30,600 Covaxin doses. To date, Mumbai tops the list of districts that has administered the highest number of doses. Mumbai has administered over 58 lakh vaccine doses till date.
