Amid growing demand to allow the general public to travel in Mumbai and suburban local trains, former minister and senior Congress leader Milind Deora has demanded that the government of Maharashtra should permit local train travel to those vaccinated.
Due to rising Covid-19 cases, currently, only state government and public administration officials are allowed to commute in trains
Stating that 10 per cent of Mumbaikars are fully vaccinated and 33 per cent have had one jab, Deora said, "GoM should permit local trains to ply for vaccinated Mumbaikars. This will also boost vaccine acceptance."
He also highlighted that lockdowns and high employee commuting costs have gutted Mumbai’s economy, putting MSMEs out of business.

On Saturday, the Bombay high court also said that it cannot permit lawyers to travel by suburban trains at least till the end of July as the Maharashtra State Covid-19 Task Force apprehends a third wave of the pandemic.
Over a week ago, the government also amended the five-level Unlock plan after spike in Covid-19 cases and removed levels one and two. Now, level 3 is having the maximum relaxation.
