MUMBAI: At least six workers suffered injuries after an explosion in a chemical factory in the Tarapur chemical zone of the
Boisar MIDC in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Saturday night. Another 30 workers managed to escape.
The blast occurred in the air handling unit of the
Bharat Chemicals, located at L-30 at around 11.30pm.
Station officer, Boisar MIDC fire brigade, Dinesh Ambore said that 36 workers were in the factory when the explosion took place. Due to the explosion, the ceiling of the unit collapsed and injured six workers. Five of them sustained head injuries and are being treated in Sanjeevani hospital in Boisar. One worker was discharged after being administered first aid. The remaining workers managed to rush out when the explosion took place.
A fire tender was pressed into service. The cause of the explosion has not been ascertained, said the fire officer.
The 39-year-old company is a manufacturer of paracetamol and other chemicals.
The Boisar MIDC police has registered an accidental case. The directorate of industrial safety and health officials will visit the factory and submit its report.
Last month, five workers sustained burn injuries in a series of explosions in a fire crackers factory in a village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district.
