New Delhi
Norwegian
battery startup Beyonder has announced its collaboration with Swiss engineering
company ABB to develop and manufacture battery cells for industrial
applications. Kristin Skofteland, Chief Commercial Officer, Beyonder, mentioned
that energy storage technology is crucial to support the world’s shift to a
low-carbon economy. Energy storage technology includes batteries developed for
transport, power and industrial applications.
The company,
founded in 2016, raised $14.7 million in December 2020 to launch the pilot
production line of lithium-ion capacitors and batteries. These lithium-ion
capacitors and batteries provide high power output and is said to recharge
quickly, making them suitable for heavy machinery or power grid.
Beyonder has
also developed a patented process to convert forestry residue such as sawdust
from pine and spruce into activated carbon for its battery cells.
The company
plans to start full-scale commercial production in 2024.
