New Delhi, July 4

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a CoWIN Global Conclave on Monday as a step to share the open-source platform in order to help other countries organise their vaccination drive in better ways.

The CoWIN application was introduced in January, when India began on its mass vaccination drive. While the digital app has been criticised by some for it allows only the digital-literate, smartphone-equipped population to access this service, it has also been lauded for its reliability, and ease in registration and appointment for vaccination.

Official sources said around 50 countries are expected to seek information about the use of the platform as a digital public good. The countries that have registered interest include Canada, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Nigeria, Uganda, Vietnam, Iraq, Dominican Republic, the UAE and others.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringa had said India is working on sharing the platform with partner countries during a recent UNSC open debate on cyber security.

Shringla had described CoWIN as scalable, inclusive and open technological platform which can be customised and scaled up for health interventions across the globe.
