Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis interacts with media.
MUMBAI: Former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that the functioning of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) needs to be reviewed. He made the statement while reacting to the death by suicide of the MPSC aspirant who took the extreme step as the final interview of the state civil services exam had not taken place. Swapnil Lonkar died after hanging himself in Pune's Hadapsar area and left behind a suicide note. He had cleared the 2019 preliminary and main exams and was waiting for the final interview to take place. He had cleared the 2020 preliminary exam as well. Fadnavis stated that Lonakar's suicide is unfortunate and added, "It is very serious (matter) and the functioning of the MPSC needs to be reviewed. Interviews don't take place. Several posts (of members) are vacant. These students give the examination with lots of expectations and if exams are not conducted for two years, then it pushes them into depression. "We request the government to conduct the review to bring the change in the MPSC's functioning."
