Nashik, Jul 4 (UNI) Renowned businessman and former president of Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Digvijay Kapadia, died in a hospital here early on Sunday due to ill health.
He was 76, and is survived by his wife, a son and daughter.
He was undergoing treatment for kidney and heart problems at Ashoka Medicover Hospital, where he succumbed early this morning.
Mr Kapadia had fought for the rights of businessmen for almost 30 to 40 years as the president of the All India Cloth Merchants' Federation.
He was well connected even with the politicians both at the central and the state government level.
In 2010, he was elected as president of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce.
He was actively involved in anti-jakat (octroi) movements, and even served for many years on the Income Tax Consumer Advisory Committee.
He had been working for many years as a member of the Divisional and Zonal Committees of the Railways.
Through the Rotary Club, he was instrumental in setting up a number of projects in the city.
Mr Kapadia was also involved in the field of education.
