Bail granted, but suspect fails to cough up bail amount

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East remanded Namoijam Jamikanta to judicial custody for allegedly threatening an ASI of Irilbung Police Station on a drug haul case of June 25.According to the IO of the case, the accused Namoijam Jamikanta @ Angamba (27), s/o Brojen of Ningombam Makha Leikai, presently staying at Kakching Khunou, dialed the ASI from an unknown number on June 25 and threatened him to release two drug peddlers who were arrested along with a consignment of heroin.
He had also identified himself as 'Phirepi' and warned the ASI of severe consequences if the two persons were not released.
The accused had also used the name of some elected members to intimidate the police officer, added the IO.
On investigation, the identity of the accused was established when the IO of the case was informed by Moirang Police Station that the accused had been arrested at Moirang in another case.
The accused was formally arrested by Imphal East Police with permission from CJM Bishnupur, added the IO.
Namoijam Jamikanta admitted the charges levelled against him, the IO added.
Namoijam Jamikanta was produced before the CJM Imphal East with a prayer for 5 days police remand.
After hearing the case, the CJM ordered the release of the accused on payment of Rs 50,000 as PR bond.
However, the accused was remanded to judicial custody as he failed to pay the amount.
