'On Nagaland Govt handling of Covid-19'
Kohima, 22nd June 2021
The Naga People’s Front expressed deep anguish over the PDA Government handling the Covid-19 situation as well as mis-using the State fund in the name of Covid-19.
The party seriously viewed the recent statement of PDA Medical Minister, Pangyu Phom that the imposition of lock down will continue in the state until the positivity rate of Covid-19 comes down to 5% as per the guideline of the Central Government.
The Government cannot just merely sit and wait for the countdown of positivity rate to decrease but should put its action and effort to bring down the positivity rate.
The party also ask the Government on what basis, the Central Government directive have directed that lock down should continue if the positivity rate does not come down to 5%?
The NPF also asserted that until and unless the Government augmented the medical facilities in each district hospital/ CHC/PHC and where there is report of acute shortage of men power such as Doctors, Nurses and other technicians from where the PDA Government expect the positivity rate to come down?
The NPF also advised the Government when it takes the decision to enforce lock down; it should also seriously view and take initiatives in addressing the hardship the public is going through.
Meanwhile, after the NPF raised the shortages of many medical kits in each districts, it is learnt that the Government has purchased ‘Pulse Oximeter’, which is laudable but at an exorbitant rate by spending to the tune of about 40 lakhs. Therefore, the party wonders, if the Government spent such a huge amount of money for pulse oximeter then it is expected that each districts will be receiving more than 200 pieces of pulse oximeter.
And apart from this sole item, there is much more medical equipment which is required in each district hospitals where the Government needs to immediately attend to.
The Party also warned the Government that any expenditure spent on Covid-19 related and others and misused of funds, the Government should be held accountable.
