R-Day violence: Delhi Court extends interim protection to Lakha Sidhana till Jul 20

New Delhi, Jul 3 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Saturday extended the interim protection from arrest given to Republic Day violence accused Lakha Sidhana till July 20.

The alleged gangster-turned-activist Sidhana is accused of involvement in the violence which erupted on January 26 when several among those protesting against the three agriculture reform laws on the peripheries of the national capital, broke the police barricades and entered the city to hoist a religious flag atop iconic Red Fort.

Tis Hazari's Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau, while extending relief to Sidhana, directed him to appear before the Delhi Police for investigations.

The Court also observed that these are political issues and it would not intervene in things where Fundamental Rights are involved.

"We do not want Jail Bharo Andolan to start. These are political issues. If they (protesters) wanted to highlight the issue, are they wrong?,' the Judge remarked.

Sidhana has so far denied any role in the R-Day violence and his counsel has maintained that he did not enter the Red Fort on that particular day.
