Mumbai: 16 booked for celebrating man’s release from jail flouting Covid norms

An officer said that on June 23, when Shabuddin Idrisi alias Babu Chaddi was released from prison, around 10-15 persons came to receive him in a jeep. They then took him to Deonar where he was garlanded and a party was organised where no one was wearing masks.

POLICE HAVE registered an FIR against a man who, upon his release from jail, celebrated the same with around 15 people in a jeep at Deonar, violating the state Covid-19 protocols.

The FIR was registered against Shabuddin Idrisi and 15 others after a video clip of the celebration went viral on social media.

An officer said, on June 23, when Idrisi alias Babu Chaddi was released from prison, around 10-15 people came to receive him in a jeep. The group then took Idrisi to Deonar where he was garlanded and a party organised, flouting the Covid-19 norms.

No arrests have been made in the case yet. An officer said Idrisi was arrested in the past for electricity theft.
