The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) has appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to take an unequivocal stand that the Centre's contentious three farm laws should be repealed, reported news agency ANI. The farmers' body has also demanded that a central law be enacted "to provide a guarantee to agricultural produce and pass a resolution in the Assembly".

Besides, the AIKSCC has slammed the Maharashtra government for bringing a draft agriculture bill in the monsoon session without consulting farmers’ organisations.

"The state is trying to bring a new farm bill by making some changes in the controversial farm law, enacted by the Centre. Making amendment to the draft of the Central laws will not change the purpose behind the enactment of the laws nor will it change the character of the laws. Rather, it would help corporates accomplish their business interest by exploiting the farmers of Maharashtra," AIKSCC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday said that he does not think the discussion on farm laws will come up in the two-day State Assembly session.

"Had a discussion with Balasaheb Thorat (Revenue Minister) on this. As the Centre has cleared the Bills, before passing these, States should have discussed the contentious points and decide. I don't think it will come up in the 2-day State Assembly session. If it comes, should be discussed," the NCP chief said while speaking at an event in Mumbai over farm laws.

The Assembly session will be held on July 5-6.
