MUMBAI: A stolen RFID Card for door lock access control, which was used in the theft of Rs 1.10 crore from the office safe of Kamani Foods Private Limited on July 25, helped the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police in cracking the case with the arrest of three men, including current and former employees.
The accused had taken all precautions and did not even communicate with each other over the phone to avoid getting tracked.
The case was solved within 48 hours of being registered on July 28 and Rs 1.08 crore was recovered from the mastermind Sameer Jadhav (35), employed as a driver for Vinay Chawla, owner of Kamani Foods.
Meanwhile, a former employee named Aatish Pawar helped Jadhav with the access card while his colleague Siddesh Bikaji helped in hiding the stolen cash. "The theft at BKC-1 has challenged the security system that is placed at the location which is highly secured with CCTVs and guards. The accused had covered his entire face while leaving from the locality with the cash bag, making it difficult to identify the person captured in the CCTV," senior inspector, BKC Police, Sachin Rane said.
The accused was spotted in the CCTV footage

Jadhav had planned the entire theft for over 15 days to earn fast money and allegedly committed the offence for his minor daughter's treatment. "The entire planning was executed after Jadhav learnt that his employer had left a cash bag in the office on July 16, before leaving for his hometown. On July 19, the CCTV footage captured at the office showed Jadhav studying to operate the door access card," the police said.
"This raised suspicion and accordingly the team took details of the current and former staff and found out that an access card had been stolen," they added.
The theft came to light when Chawla resumed office on July 28 and found the cash missing.
The case was solved after DCP (Zone VIII) Manjunath Singe supervised the team.
