BHUBANESWAR: Gymkhana Palm Heights, a residential complex in ward number 22, was on Friday declared a micro-containment zone after the detection of more than 80
Covid positive cases there. The
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (
BMC) said no one will be allowed to enter the premises and none can come out without its permission.
The BMC will ensure supply of essentials as and when required through the vendors authorised by it. The BMC squads and police will also keep a watch on the complex to see if Covid protocol is being violated.
The BMC also sealed Ekamra Park as people were seen hanging around it. The BMC, during a surprise raid, found people entering it despite no permission having been granted for its opening. The BMC said the park belongs to horticulture department and to avoid congestion, it was sealed.
The BMC also sealed one of the biggest markets in the city at VSS
Nagar as it was overcrowded and despite warning, the vendors failed to adher to Covid norms. The market will remain closed till the BMC comes up with a fresh order.
The enforcement teams also conducted surprise raids at Badagada Haat, Saheed Nagar Haat and
Jharpada. In the north zone, six shops were closed and altogether Rs 10,000 collected as fine from errant vendors.
The capital city, meanwhile, reported 345 fresh cases on Friday. Active cases stayed at around 1300 as the number of new cases and recoveries are almost same. The city so far has seen 460 Covid fatalities with total count jumping to 90,908.
