Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Jen Psaki 'Liar' After Saying Biden Backed Police Funding

Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene bluntly accused White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki of being a "liar" Saturday, claiming that President Joe Biden campaigned and won on a platform that sought to "defund the police."

Psaki on Friday responded to a question about Biden's record in terms of police funding, specifically the Community Oriented Policing Services federal grant program (COPS). The White House said GOP lawmakers have spent "decades" trying to "defund" federal funds for local policing efforts, and that Biden has adamantly been opposed to "defunding the police" since he announced his run 2020 for president.

"The president ran on, most importantly, did not run on defunding the police, he's always opposed defunding the police," Psaki said, responding to a reporter's question about police funding on Friday.

"I'll also note because you've asked this question before, or a few several times over the last several days, that when we talk about individuals in Congress and their support for funding, or opposition to the funding of police, I think what the American people are most focused on is how people vote, what their record is, which is a public record," Psaki continued.

Greene blatantly accused Psaki of lying about Biden's record over funding police. She echoed former President Donald Trump's false campaign claim that Biden supports far-left efforts to dismantle police departments.

"What an incredible liar," Greene tweeted in response early Saturday morning, sharing a video of Psaki's Friday evening press conference. "Democrats ran on defunding the police. No one has forgotten even if the media refuses to call out her lies."

A Washington Post piece from June 29 responded to claims by Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz and Indiana GOP Congressman Jim Banks that Biden does not support police.

"In other words, Cruz and [Indiana GOP Congressman Jim] Banks have no basis for claiming that abolishing police or supporting the defund police movement is a Biden administration position. Indeed, the opposite is true," the Washington Post Fact Checker item read. "In his fiscal 2022 budget, Biden kept his campaign promise and proposed to more than double the funding for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program. Funding is provided to state and local governments to hire law enforcement officers, thus inflating the size of police departments."

Psaki continued in her remarks from Friday: "What the president ran and won the most of any candidate in history...Republicans spent decades trying to cut the COPS program. The president ran on increasing that funding. It's in his budget. In Trump's budget, he significantly cut that, so that's a change."
