LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh is soon likely to get a committee to review cases being filed under the National Security Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Additional Chief Secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi confirmed to TOI that chief minister Yogi Adityanath has given an in-principle approval for the setting up of this committee and now the department would work out its modalities. The committee is being set up as required by the UAPA itself, which mandates that such committees are present in states and Centre to review each case being filed under these laws. While the committee will review whether the Acts will be applicable in cases which the government is about to file, it could also review cases which have been filed in the past. Such details will be clarified once the scope of the review committee is determined, said Awasthi.
