Within two days after the launch of the Safe City Project in Phagwara and Kapurthala towns, police on Saturday solved two cases of snatching and arrested four accused soon after the act of crime in Phagwara.

Kapurthala SSP H P S Khakh on Saturday said that two boys chased a scooter-borne man Vishnu, resident of Thanesar, Kurukshetra on the national highway near Haveli Jalandhar. The boys then robbed Vishnu who claimed that he had kept Rs 2 lakh in his stolen scooter's cabinet.
“As soon as the information was received, the newly launched Highway Patrol Party reached the spot and started tracking the criminals by scanning the CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Police teams tracked down the criminals and arrested accused Amandeep Singh and Karanpreet Singh and recovered the looted money, looted scooter and the bike used to commit the crime,” he said.
“During preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that the money was handed over to Vishnu by Kamdeva, who has a grocery store in Qazi Mandi Jalandhar and Kamdeva's daughter Anjali is a friend of snatcher Amandeep Singh. She provided the information to him and they committed the crime,” he added. Both accused are residents of Jalandhar.
In the second case, two bikers stole the purse from Dr Renu Bala’s scooter when she returned home and was opening the main gate of the house. SSP Khakh said that after receiving the information, the newly launched PCR Patrol motorcycle on duty reached the spot and analysed the CCTV’s installed in the vicinity and soon two accused Harsh and Sandeep Kumar were tracked down and stolen purse was recovered. Both accused are residents of Phagwara.
“With outcome of good results of Safe City Project, it will be launched in the remaining subdivisions and very active policing would be ensured in the upcoming days,” SSP Khakh added.
