Mumbai: Cop booked in disproportionate assets case
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday registered a case against a police inspector here as Rs 17 lakh were found to be disproportionate to his known sources of income, an official said. The case was registered against inspector Shankar Pujari, who is currently attached to the control room of the city's central region, he said.

65% rise in vaccination of 18-44 group in north Maharashtra
There has been over 65% increase in vaccination of beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group in five districts of north Maharashtra in the past 10 days thanks to the Centre’s decision to provide free inoculation to all above 18 years of age from June 21. The state health department’s data revealed that as on July 1, a total of over 4.06 lakh beneficiaries between 18-44 years of age were inoculated in Nashik, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar. The bulk of beneficiaries got their first shots. In contrast, only 1.39 lakh beneficiaries of this age group got vaccinated up to June 21 in these five districts.
Pune: Phugewadi Metro station nearly 90% complete
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has completed 90% of the construction of the Phugewadi Metro station and plans to finish the rest in the coming few days. Phugewadi is the second station, after the one at Sant Tukaramnagar, to be ready on the Pimpri-Dapodi priority route. MahaMetro plans to start full-fledged service between these two stations in the initial phase.

475 new Covid-19 cases in Thane, 13 more deaths
Thane has added 475 new cases of coronavirus, taking the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,34,011, an official said on Sunday. Besides these new cases reported on Saturday, the virus also claimed the lives of 13 more people, pushing the death toll in the district to 10,733, he said. The Covid-19 mortality rate in Thane stood at two per cent, he added. Details of recovered and under-treatment patients were not provided by the district administration. (PTI)

Three policemen injured in mob attack in Thane
Three policemen were injured in an attack by a mob while they were trying to nab a criminal in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Sunday. The incident took place at Kasai Wada in Bhiwandi town on Friday when a joint team of the Gujarat police and Bhiwandi crime branch, in plain clothes, went in search of Jamil Qureshi (38), against whom criminal offences were registered by Valsad police in the neighbouring state. Power firm guard killed by villagers during drive against defaulters in Thane
A security guard of a private power supply company was killed allegedly by a group of villagers here in Maharashtra during a drive against electricity bill payment defaulters, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday in Katai area of Kaneri village under Bhiwandi township when the victim, Tukaram Pawar, along with other staff of the power firm went there to take action against those who had not paid their electricity bills, an official from Nizampura police station said.
Maharashtra: 5 injured in fire after explosion at chemical plant in Palghar
Five workers were injured in a fire following an explosion at the plant of a chemical company in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials said on Sunday. The blast took place around 11.30 pm on Saturday at the chemical plant located in Boisar industrial area here, a fire official said. After being alerted, local firemen rushed to the spot and carried out rescue and relief operations. "Five workers received burn injuries due to the fire after the explosion. They have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment," an official from Boisar police station said. The cause of the explosion is not yet known, he said, adding that a probe is on into the incident. (PTI)

State authorities on Saturday asked officials of nine districts with weekly positivity rates higher than 4.5% (the state average) to boost their testing levels, contact tracing and pace of vaccine coverage. Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Buldhana, Pune (rural), Palghar and Raigad have all recorded test positivity rates higher than 4.5%, according to the weekly (June 25 to July 1) report prepared by the state public health department.
