Nanded, Jul 1 (UNI) A riot erected between two groups in Ardhapur town on a trivial matter vandalizing various private properties including vehicles, late in the evening of Wednesday.
To control the riot Ardhapur police fired a bullet in the air along with firing a rubber bullet and bursting tear gas cells, then only the rioting crowd dispersed. The SP Promod Kumar Shewale assured that those who disturb the peace will not be spared.
As per details, a youth exercising in a private gymnasium in Ardhapur town got into a quarrel with another youth. In such a situation, only one youth fell victim to another group of youths. Later, the victim youth went to Ardhapur and came back with his group and a riot broke out. The two gangs ransacked various four-wheelers and 2 two-wheelers in a public place.
Police Inspector Ashok Jadhav, Sub-Inspector Kapil Aglave and other police officials reached the spot. Police appealed to the rioters to maintain peace but the mob did not follow. Then a bullet was fired from Aglave's pistol into the air. Another rubber bullet was also fired to disperse the mob.
Meanwhile the SP Shewale, Deputy SP Balasaheb Deshmukh and Local Crime Branch Inspector of Police Dwarkadas Chikhlikar along with several officers, the Quick Response Team (QRT) and Riot Control Police ( RCP ) also arrived at the spot.
The rioters, habituated in such matters, cut off power supply and resumed the rioting in which a police vehicle was also vandalized. Police then burst a tear gas cell then only the rioters started fleeing. PI Jadhav said that three of the rioters have been arrested.
SP Shewale with his force camped in the town today from early morning itself.
Police have so far arrested 18 people in the case and a case has been filed against 250 accused. There is a tense calm in the city right now. Ample police security has been maintained at the spot.
The rioters will not be spared, said the Special Inspector General of Police Nisar Tamboli.
