Yami Gautam Has Been Summoned By The ED For Suspected Money Laundering. Here’s How Social Media Is Reacting To The News

Last year, this time, after the untimely death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, our entertainment industry was unstable and on its knees. Every day we’d get news of celebrities being summoned by the CBI and various other agencies. The media had a field day with this. Well, one news channel, in particular, had vested interests. These celebrities were put through a nightmarish ordeal because of that. Rhea Chakraborty, Deepika Padukone, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, the list goes on. It almost seemed as if the media forgot that the basis of our justice system is ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and not the other way around. Now, the reason I am trudging up the tragic past is that, in an unrelated matter, Yami Gautam is being investigated for the alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). ED found foreign exchange transactions to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore in Yami Gautam’s bank account that she hadn’t disclosed.

Reportedly, Yami Gautam has been called for questioning by the ED on 7 July. Summons were scheduled after a primary investigation flagged certain transactions that were connected to the Uri actresses bank account. The alleged violation of money laundering includes a foreign monetary transaction that she neglected to inform the authorities about.

Obviously, we can’t comment on these charges but what we can talk about is how all of social media is reacting to this news. Ever since the news of Yami Gautam being summoned by the ED broke, Twitter has been buzzing. Even though this isn’t a full-blown media trial like Rhea Chakraborty or Deepika Padukone were subjected to last year, netizens are acting like Yami has been charged and booked. We’re losing sight of the fact that she has only been called in for questioning. Although, everyone seems to have very mixed reactions about this whole thing and there are more than a few memes spawning from this incident.
