NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will compensate the private highway developers for their toll revenue loss due to farmer agitation. A policy circular issued by the NHAI on Friday said the contract period to collect toll to recover the loss will be extended. The circular said the extension of period will be equal to the length of the period when toll could not be collected at all despite best effort by the toll operator. In the case of partial toll collection where the daily collection was less than 90% of the average daily fee collection during normal days, the time will be extended proportionately to recover the loss. The policy said for the avoidance of doubt, if the toll loss is 25% of the average daily revenue during normal days for four days, the highway operator concerned will get a one day extension to collect toll. The toll operators in Punjab, Haryana and parts of Rajasthan have been the worst hit because of the farmer protest against three agriculture laws.
