CHENNAI: The state leadership of the BJP on Friday removed three functionaries of its Karaikudi district unit from the primary membership of the party. The development comes a few days after Karaikudi district unit functionaries criticised former party national secretary H Raja for his “highhandedness.”
Party general secretary Karu Nagarajan expelled Kunnakudi zonal president N Prabhu, Karaikudi zonal president K Chandran, and Sakkottai South zonal president K Balamurugan, according to a statement.
They have been removed from the primary membership of the party for violating party rules and indulging in activities that tarnished the image of the party. The party functionaries had been advised to detach their contacts with the trio, said Karu Nagarajan in the statement and noted that the decision had been taken with the consensus of state president L Murugan.
Several functionaries in the Karaikudi district registered their protest against Raja, who had lost in the assembly elections in the Karaikudi constituency against Congress candidate S Mangudi. Many of the functionaries had submitted their resignation as a sign of their protest.
