It's Necessary: Truth be told, I'll miss the cicadas

After Covid, the election, the insurrection, racial injustice and everything else that 2020 and 2021 has thrown at us, those stupid, red-eyed bugs offered a wonderful, occasionally annoying, distraction.

After years of hype, the cicadas of Brood X have come and gone. The little buggers have all but died out, having mated and laid their eggs. Our trees are now silent. There's no cicada pee raining down from the sky. Cicada-related traffic accidents are now a thing of the past.

Truth be told, I'll miss the cicadas. After COVID-19, the election, the insurrection, racial injustice and everything else that 2020 and 2021 has thrown at us, those stupid, red-eyed bugs offered a wonderful, occasionally annoying, distraction.
