BHOPAL: As the curfew has been lifted and the city is unlocked, the chances of a spread of corona are increasing. However, action against violators of social distancing norms and against those not wearing masks is now missing.

On the one hand, there has been no action against any shopkeeper for violation of social distancing norms recently and, on the other, there has been a sharp decline in the number of fines imposed on those not wearing masks.

BMC data shows only 250 persons on an average are not wearing masks in a day. On the other hand, in any of the markets or a public place, one may find masks missing from the faces of visitors. BMC would, at one time, impose over 700 fines in a day for the past few months. The figure was way higher and would reach 1,000 to 1,200 last year.

On Thursday, 248 people were fined for not wearing masks. On Tuesday, 390 violators were fined, while, a day earlier, 212 were fined for not wearing masks. On Sunday, no fine was imposed, while, on Saturday, 189 violators were fined for this reason. A day before, the figure was 179 and, on Thursday, it was 193. Before this, no action was taken for six days and, on June 18, 535 violators were fined.

The highest number of challans was issued on June 12 and, on the day, fines were imposed on 993 people, followed by 724 challans on June 16 and 528 challans on June 15. On June 14, 369 challans were issued.
